Overleg:Beginner's Guide & Personal Experiences with Auctioneer

Green weapons, or any weapon below about 20g makes very poor auctioneer material. For most of them you will have to pay insane deposits of 2g or more. So stay away from them, unless you know exactly that there is a market for them, and that there is a market at this time! High-end weapons can be very profitable sometimes, but you shouldn't touch them unless your accumulated gold is well in 3-figure numbers. Armor is quite similar, although the deposits are not that insanely high. Green drops of weapons or armor below level 50 are almost always better vendored,[...]
[mes:] I disagree, green weapons are almost always better to DE than to vendor, and weapons with good itemization under lvl 40 or so (eagle cloth, monkey leather, bear mail/plate etc.) are often worth selling and have fairly low deposits relative to worth, it is items above lvl 50 that are almost never worth selling (but often very valuable to disenchant).
In fact, buying good low level greens (10-29) was one of the first early surefire moneymakers I found (along with copper and herbs). Most noob characters put greens on the auction house for 3x vendor price, because that's the default, and they do not bother to ascertain the market value. I did it myself at first. So there will always be people putting third and fourth best twink gear that can fetch 5-20g, or just good non-twink gear worth 3-6g on the auction house for under 1g, sometimes even just a few silvers. Low level cloth items have deposits in the 10-20s range, so you can afford a few listings. I don't do this much anymore, the profit is too small relative to the bag space for all but the better twink items, but for somebody with a modest bit of starting capital, passing up these deals leaves a fair bit of profit on the table. If I were starting on a new server from scratch, these would be a big part of my plan.
Not sure how to edit this, wanted to throw it out there and see if anybody had objections first.
This is an article, not a statement of rules, et cetera.
If a person has a character on which to D/E items then your point is surely valid, if not, then the original author's point basically stands.
Regardless, feel free to write your own guide article, if you are so inclined. If you do not know how to add them, simply write it as a forum posts and we will add it as time allows.
